Mergio Privacy Policy
1. Who this policy is from
Mergio (“we”, “us”) makes the Mergio app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Mergio. It is the same policy in every language and every country where the app is available.
2. Effective date
This policy takes effect on 2026-09-24 and replaces any earlier privacy policy for Mergio.
3. Summary
Mergio is a local-first Markdown notes app: your notes are ordinary files that stay in folders you choose or in your own iCloud Drive, and Mergio collects nothing about you.
4. What data is and is not collected
We collect no personal data. Mergio has no account system and no sign-in. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no third-party SDK, and no server operated by us. Nothing you write, read, or search for is sent to us or to anyone else.
Mergio keeps a small amount of app settings on your device only — for example your appearance, language, and editor preferences, and which repositories you have opened — so that it can restore them the next time you launch it. Those settings do not leave your device, except through device backups that you control (iCloud Backup or a computer backup).
Two things in the app are handled by Apple, not by us:
- iCloud Drive — if you keep a repository in iCloud Drive, Apple’s iCloud service syncs those files between your devices.
- In-App Purchase — the App Store processes payment for Mergio Pro (see section 8).
Mergio itself makes no network requests of its own, and we never receive your notes.
5. Where your notes are stored
Your notes are ordinary Markdown (.md) files, and any images you insert are ordinary image files. They live in one of two places:
- A folder you choose yourself — picked by you in the system folder picker. Mergio can only read and write inside folders you have opened.
- Mergio’s own folder in iCloud Drive — shown in the Files app and in Finder as iCloud Drive → Mergio. That folder is in your iCloud account and is synced by Apple. We have no server and no copy of it.
You can add, switch between, and remove repositories at any time in the app. Removing a repository from Mergio does not delete the folder or anything in it.

6. What Mergio does not do
- It does not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- It does not collect personal information, usage statistics, diagnostics, or crash reports.
- It does not show advertising or use your data for advertising.
- It does not track you across apps or websites.
- It does not include any third-party SDK.
- It does not send your notes, your file names, or your search terms anywhere.
- It does not read files you have not chosen: the app is sandboxed and can only reach the folders you have opened and its own folder in iCloud Drive.
7. Permissions the system may ask for

Mergio does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, calendars, reminders, health data, or notifications.
8. Purchases and subscriptions
Mergio Pro is sold only through Apple’s In-App Purchase, in three forms: a yearly subscription, a monthly subscription, and a one-time Lifetime Unlock.
- Apple handles the payment. The charge goes to your Apple Account. We never see or store your payment method, card number, billing address, or Apple Account.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The App Store shows the price and the renewal terms before you confirm; prices can vary by region.
- You can cancel at any time in your Apple Account subscription settings. The Pro screen in the app has a Manage Subscription link that takes you there. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Restore Purchases in the app brings back a purchase you have already made, for example after moving to a new device. Redeem Code redeems an Apple offer code.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms; we cannot issue them ourselves.
- Purchases are governed by Apple’s standard End User License Agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula).
We do not receive your name, email address, or payment details from Apple. The App Store provides developers only with aggregate sales information that does not identify individual customers.
The free version of Mergio is a complete Markdown editor; it is limited to 3 repositories and 50 notes and folders. Notes you already have are never locked: you can always open, edit, export, and delete them.
9. Children’s privacy
Mergio is a general-purpose notes app and is not directed at children. Because Mergio collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either. There is no account and no profile, and we hold no data about a child that a parent or guardian would need to review or delete. In-App Purchases go through the App Store and are subject to the Apple Account and Family Sharing settings you control.
10. Retention and deletion
We hold no copy of your notes or your data, so there is nothing on our side to retain or delete.
- Deleting a note or a folder in Mergio deletes the file — by default it moves to the system Trash, or it is deleted permanently if you choose that in Settings.
- Deleting the app does not delete your notes. They stay in the folders you have opened and in iCloud Drive → Mergio.
- To remove what Mergio put in iCloud Drive, use Settings → Accounts → iCloud Drive → Manage Storage → Delete Data from iCloud. This deletes everything in the app’s iCloud Drive folder and syncs that deletion to every device signed in to your iCloud account; it cannot be undone. Folders you picked yourself are not affected.
- To stop using a folder, remove that repository in the app. The folder and its contents are left exactly as they are.
- To revoke iCloud access, turn iCloud Drive off for Mergio in your system settings (System Settings → your name → iCloud on Mac; Settings → your name → iCloud on iPhone and iPad), or simply stop keeping repositories there.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and describe the change in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use Mergio after a change means you accept the updated policy.
